SUMMARY: A project to build two reactors at VC Summer Nuclear Station in South Carolina, abandoned in 2017 after costing $8 billion, may soon resume. Santee Cooper has proposed selling the site to a private company to complete the project, which could add 2,200 megawatts of clean energy. Senator Tom Davis supports the initiative, suggesting it would ease customer costs. However, Senator Russell Ott expressed concerns about potential risks. Governor Henry McMaster emphasized the project’s importance for South Carolina’s energy needs and its potential to inspire nationwide nuclear construction. Discussions on the state’s energy future will continue next week.

SUMMARY: A Republican budget proposal, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” includes a plan to sell up to 3.2 million acres of federal public land across 11 states, sparking bipartisan backlash. Utah Sen. Mike Lee defends the move as a way to spur energy production and housing, but critics—including conservationists, hunters, and some GOP lawmakers—warn it threatens public access and natural heritage. The Wilderness Society and others argue the plan prioritizes revenue over preservation. A YouGov poll found 71% of Americans oppose public land sales, including majorities of both Trump and Harris voters. Key states affected include Alaska, Utah, and Nevada.

SUMMARY: As summer begins, some parents are skipping expensive camps and structured schedules, instead embracing an unstructured break for their kids—dubbed “kid rotting.” Letting children relax, be bored, play outdoors, or watch TV is gaining popularity as a low-stress alternative. Clinical psychologist Dr. Tasha Brown notes that summer camps can trigger anxiety in some kids, and downtime may benefit their mental health. While some parents value structured learning, others prefer to let kids recharge, explore interests, and spend time with family. Ultimately, both approaches can be valid, depending on each family’s needs and resources.

It has a tracker on its neck meaning it likely has been caught breaking into homes before. The summer school break is underway but instead of spending a fortune on camp, some parents are opting to let their kids “rot” for the summer.
