Ocean Science Camp is underway at USM Marine Education Center

SUMMARY: The Marine Education Center at Southern Miss is hosting a -long camp to educate 7th through 12th graders about ocean sciences. The camp includes trips out to sea on the 's research vessel and build their own autonomous vehicle model. The day begins with an hour of in-class learning before moving to hands-on experiences at the beach. The aim of the camp, which has been running for over 35 years, is to young students with an engaging way of understanding the importance of marine to everyday survival.

USM Army and Air Force ROTC programs host Commissioning Ceremonies

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Force cadets from the of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
