NWS confirms two tornadoes touched down in Lowndes County Friday morning
SUMMARY: On Friday, two confirmed tornadoes hit Lou County: one to the north and east of Calonia and another south of Calonia, north of Steens. The first tornado, an EF1, had wind speeds peaking at 90 mph and was on the ground for a few minutes, causing sporadic damage over two miles. The second tornado, an EF0, hit the same spot as a strong tornado in November 2022. The National Weather Service in Birmingham plans to survey the area for potential additional tornado damage in the next couple of days. Three tornado touchdowns were reported that day, one in the New Albany area.

Voters to decide on Lamar County school bond
SUMMARY: Today, voters in Lamar County are deciding on whether to approve a $117 million bond for the Lamar County School District. The funds will be used to construct new Summerall High School, Oak Grove Middle School, and Pis High School. Property taxes may increase by around $25 per year for a $100,000 home if the bond is approved. The polls will remain open until 7:00 this evening for residents to cast their votes on the referendum.

University of Mississippi graduate student's book lands a Netflix deal
SUMMARY: A University of Mississippi graduate student's book, “Rain Rain Go Away,” has landed her a Netflix deal. Bedner's collection of essays is in development for a TV series titled “Calabasas.” Bedner, a student in the master's program in creative writing at Ole Miss, is excited about the opportunity. The show will be produced by names like Emma Roberts and Kim Kardashian. Bedner is thrilled and still can't believe the news. Updates on the production and air date of the series will be provided in the future.
