Hinds County rescinds employee termination policy
SUMMARY: The Hines County Board of Supervisors voted 3 to 1 to rescind a policy that protected employees from being fired at will after only a month of implementation. District 2 supervisor Anthony Smith, who originally proposed the policy, faced criticism from his colleagues about his motives. Smith believes the policy is necessary to create a more positive work environment in Hines County and attract quality employees. Employees were happy about the protection the policy offered but are now disappointed with its repeal. Smith hopes the board can come to a consensus on how to move forward with implementing similar policies in the future.

Beth Ann White’s attorney asks court to disregard verdict
SUMMARY: Attorney Kevin Camp has filed a motion asking the court to disregard the jury's verdict in the case of a woman convicted of causing a fatal crash in Hines County. The attorney argues that the verdict should be overturned and a new trial granted because the state's expert was unable to determine the woman's blood alcohol content at the time of the crash. The woman was found guilty on four counts of aggravated DUI and a fourth DUI offense. Camp claims that the verdict is impossible due to the lack of concrete evidence regarding the woman's blood alcohol level.
