Mary Mahoney’s pleads guilty to passing off frozen fish as fresh Gulf seafood
SUMMARY: Mary Mahoney's Old French House restaurant in Biloxi and its co-owner, Anthony Charles Cvitanovich, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to misbrand seafood and wire fraud. The company admitted to fraudulently selling over 29 tons of imported fish as local premium species like snapper and grouper from 2013 to 2019. Cvitanovich specifically misbranded approximately 17,190 pounds of fish in 2018-2019. The fraudulent activity involved selling lower-cost imported fish as higher-priced local varieties. Both the company and Cvitanovich face significant penalties, with sentencing set for September 12, 2024. The case underscores the seriousness of food mislabeling crimes.

Click It or Ticket Campaign reminds drivers to buckle up
SUMMARY: The U.S. Department of Transportation's NHTSA has launched its annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign to promote seat belt use, particularly at night and in rural areas. The campaign, supported by an $11.2 million advertising effort across multiple platforms, highlights the high percentage of unbelted fatalities in rural areas and among young male drivers. In 2022, 58% of passenger vehicle occupants killed in rural nighttime crashes were not wearing seat belts. The initiative runs from May 13 to June 2, coinciding with heightened enforcement by state and local law enforcement to enhance road safety. For more details, visit NHTSA.gov/SeatBelts.
