Medical center honors its volunteers Thursday
SUMMARY: South Central Regional Medical Center recently held its annual volunteer awards ceremony and appreciation reception, where they honored 43 volunteers who collectively contributed over 7,000 hours of service. These volunteers traditionally assisted in areas like the emergency department, Children's Academy offices, and nursing homes. Awards were given for Caring Teen Volunteer of the Year and Volunteer of the Year. The hospital acknowledged that they hadn't been able to honor their volunteers since 2019, and expressed gratitude for their dedication. They also encouraged others to get involved by visiting their website for more information on volunteering opportunities at the hospital.

EX-Petal teacher turns self in, charged with 3 crimes involving children
SUMMARY: Former award-winning elementary school teacher Tyler Sha was arrested on charges of sex crimes with children, including touching and sending inappropriate images. The investigation began in early March after concerns from the school district. Sha resigned on February 27th. The alleged victims are teenage boys who reported that Sha gave them alcohol and marijuana. Police Chief Matthew Hayatt expressed disappointment and emphasized the importance of authority figures maintaining ethics and values. Sha, who had received national recognition in 2022, was released on bail. The investigation continues, and parents are encouraged to talk to their children about any interactions with Sha. More charges may follow pending the outcome of search warrants.
