Natchez Trace Fatal Wreck
SUMMARY: Three suspects are facing charges for felony shoplifting and felony fleeing. A deadly wreck occurred on the Natchez Trace in Ridgeland, resulting in one death and four injuries. The driver, John Vanderford, lost control of the vehicle and struck three trees. Vanderford was pronounced dead at the scene, while one passenger was flown to UMMC and the other three were taken by AMR. The investigation led to a one-mile portion of the Natchez Trace being shut down. A reconstruction team was called to determine the cause of the accident, including speed and potential mechanical failures.

New Houlka is increasing its water and sewer rates
SUMMARY: The town of New Hoka has approved an increase in water and sewer rates, affecting water customers in the area. The rates will go up by $4, from $21 to $25 for the first 2,000 gallons, appearing on the July 2024 water bill. The decision was made due to rising operating costs caused by an increase in the price of supplies and materials. This is the first rate hike in 5 years and is meant to help the town maintain its current budget. Residents are advised to be aware of this change in their water bills.
Both water and sewer will increase by four dollars.

East Union defeats Pisgah in Softball State Championships
SUMMARY: In the State softball championships, East Union faced off against Pisa with Miss softball Lucy Cochran leading the way. East Union emerged victorious in a hard-fought matchup at the championships.

JPD investigates homicide at Parham Bridges Park
