SUMMARY: The Department of released its card for the year, revealing that Mississippi has the lowest life expectancy and the nation in preventable deaths. Access to care continues to be a major issue, particularly in the Delta region where health outcomes are 15% worse than the rest of the state. However, there have been improvements, with declining HIV rates and a drop in obesity rates for the fourth consecutive year. Although the Delta region some of the greatest public health challenges, there are potential options, such as expansion, to hospitals in the area. Overall, the state's hospitals are in better shape than they were a year ago.
