Mississippi student achievement scores reach all-time high in 2023

SUMMARY: Student achievement reading scores in mathematics, English Language Arts (ELA), science, and U.S. History have reached an all-time high in Mississippi, according to the latest results from the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP). The overall percentage of scoring proficient or advanced has reached historic highs, with 52.6 percent in mathematics, 46.7 percent in ELA, 59.4 percent in science, and 71.4 percent in U.S. History. These results show a rebound from the pandemic-related drop in student achievement in 2021, and student achievement has resumed pre-pandemic momentum. The assessment results contribute to schools' annual accountability grades.
