Mississippi State Auditor counter-sues Brett Favre for TANF funds
SUMMARY: The State Auditor of Mississippi, Shad White, has filed a counter-suit against former NFL quarterback Brett Favre to recover welfare dollars. This comes after Favre initiated a defamation suit against White in February. Attorney General Lynn Fitch will no longer represent White in this lawsuit. The lawsuit arises from a large welfare fraud scandal in Mississippi, with the Department of Human Services misspending over $77 million in federal welfare funds. Favre has repaid $1.1 million in speaking fees from a nonprofit group that spent welfare money. The state is suing to recover misspent welfare money from Favre and others.
