Mississippi guardsman still recovering from heat stroke

SUMMARY: 18-year-old Colby-Maury Rice, a National Guardsman from Hattiesburg, suffered a severe heat stroke during drills at Camp Shelby and was in a coma for 57 days. His father, Eddie Dockery, says his son has made progress but still has a long way to go. Rice is currently in a hospital in New Orleans with neurological issues and partial blindness. The family wants to continue his rehabilitation at home instead of sending him to Tampa, Florida for treatment. Dockery blames the National Guard for the heat stroke and says very little has been done to cover Rice's medical expenses. The National Guard says safety is paramount to their success and they will work to mitigate any risks, including the weather.

Overnight lane closure in Madison County

Wiggins firefighter pinned in fire engine accident released from hospital

SUMMARY: A fire truck crash in Wiggins injured a firefighter, who was responding to a single-vehicle accident. Around midnight, the Wiggins Fire Department's engine rolled multiple times en route, trapping a firefighter underneath. The firefighter was rescued using the jaws of life and transported to a hospital, where she has been discharged and is expected to fully recover. The person involved in the initial single-vehicle accident was also freed and was uninjured. Fire Chief Steve Purvis provided this information.
