Mississippi governor lifts partial statewide burn ban
SUMMARY: Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves lifted a partial statewide burn ban on November 16, 2023, following decreased wildfire activity due to recent rainfall. The Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC) suggested the repeal, but 27 counties still remain under local burn bans, imposed by their Boards of Supervisors, which may be lifted, allowed to expire, or extended at their discretion. Since August 1, MFC crews have managed 1,506 wildfires, saving over 2,679 structures. Mississippians are advised to check whether their county is still under a ban, as violations could lead to liability for fire-related damages.
