Mississippi capital to revamp how it notifies next of kin about deaths with Justice Department help
SUMMARY: The U.S. Justice Department is assisting the Jackson, Mississippi Police Department in revamping their policies for next-of-kin death notifications after seven men were buried in unmarked graves without their families' knowledge. At least three of the men were Black, which raised concerns of civil rights violations. Federal officials will help ensure that notification procedures comply with laws, provide training recommendations, and offer assistance in locating next-of-kin. The intervention follows the discovery of Dexter Wade's body, who was buried without his family's knowledge after being killed by an off-duty police officer. The announcement by the Civil Rights Division does not imply any wrongdoing by local agencies.

Investigation continues into 4 electrical blackouts on ship that caused Baltimore bridge collapse
SUMMARY: The container ship Dali experienced electrical blackouts before leaving Baltimore's port, which were different from the power outages that led to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, killing six workers. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incidents, with the ship losing power and crashing into the bridge. Initial findings suggest that maintenance issues and changes to the ship's electrical configuration may have played a role in the accidents. The FBI has also launched a criminal investigation. The ship is expected to be refloated and guided back to the Port of Baltimore.
