Mississippi-based clients to receive checks after $12.4M Raymond James settlement
SUMMARY: Mississippi has reached a $12.4 million settlement with Raymond James over allegations that the company charged clients “unreasonable commissions” on trades that harmed investors. The settlement includes $8.2 million in refunds to clients and $4.2 million in penalties and costs to states. State securities regulators found that Raymond James nickel-and-dimed customers on over 270,000 equity transactions and trades over the last five years. The company will also implement updated policies and procedures to prevent the imposition of unfair commissions. Clients who were charged more than 5 percent commission on equity transactions from 2018-2023 will be eligible for restitution.
