Mike Chaney joins the show to discuss Medicare open enrollment
SUMMARY: Open enrollment is currently happening, meaning individuals may consider changing their health insurance plans. Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney joined a show from the capital city to discuss issues arising during this period. The insurance department has received complaints, particularly concerning Medicare users being switched to Medicare Advantage plans without proper disclosure and network issues, including doctors no longer being in-network. Chaney highlighted that while regulators have limited authority over these plans, they do take action against misbehaving companies. He advised consumers to be cautious, especially regarding drug coverage and to get promises in writing. For assistance or to report concerns, Chaney directed people to the department of insurance. He also noted that while some insurers may not operate ethically, many do, and advised viewers to verify any changes to their health plan carefully.
Joining us now on the 4 O'Clock Show is insurance commissioner, Mike Chaney.
