MHP investigating separate fatal crashes in Pearl River County

SUMMARY: Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating two fatal car accidents in Pearl River County that occurred over the past week. A crash on Highway 43 resulted in the deaths of 20-year-old Ramone Jackson and his 18-year-old passenger, Shelby Rae Kevwitch, after their vehicle hit a tree; another motorist suffered moderate injuries after hitting debris from the crash. In a separate incident on Highway 11, 18-year-old Skyla McLown died when her vehicle left the road and overturned.

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
