Madison County aims to recover most of $2.7 million stolen in cyber scam

SUMMARY: County Sheriff Randy Tucker confirmed that almost all of the $2.7 million stolen in a recent cyber scam will be returned. The scam occurred when a fraudster posed as a vendor representative, resulting in the county losing the money. The Sheriff emphasized that no county employee was involved in criminal activity. To prevent similar incidents, county are implementing a 30-45 day delay on large payments and considering establishing an internal audit department. During a recent meeting, County Administrator Greg Higginbotham and Chancery Clerk Ronny Lott presented strategies to avoid future scams. More long-term are being explored.

Man arrested for three Jackson homicides
