Laurel receives transportation grant for road improvements
SUMMARY: Laurel, a city in Mississippi, has been awarded a $28.4 million grant from the Department of Transportation's ‘Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity' program. The grant will be used to improve roadways in the city, including new water, sewer, drainage, and sidewalks. The funding will also be used to build a corridor connecting U.S. Highway 84, improving access between east and west routes. Additionally, the grant will address issues such as flooding at the Teresa Street underpass and replace a confusing traffic light with a roundabout. Mayor Johnny Magee hopes the work will be completed by the end of 2026.

The cicadas are screaming, and though it may be annoying, one school says they are a helpful tool.
