Laurel advocates push for homeless shelter in city
SUMMARY: Some community members in Laurel feel that the city should provide better treatment and shelter for the homeless. Two individuals who minister to the homeless, Emma Hill and Tommy Cheeks, say that the city removed benches from Daphne Park where the homeless would sleep. Mayor Johnny Magee explains that the benches were damaged by those staying in the park. Hill and Cheeks recommend a long-term homeless shelter or housing to help the homeless get back on their feet. However, Mayor Magee says that the city does not have the financial resources to build a shelter.

Deadly Shooting Suspect Identified
SUMMARY: The Jackson Police Department has arrested and charged Bobby Jones with murder in connection to a deadly gas station shooting that took place at the Shell station on Northside Drive. The incident occurred around 6:30 AM on Friday morning, resulting in the shooting of Joshua Bennett. A witness reported hearing four to six shots and seeing the shooter grab a backpack before leaving the scene.
