Juvenile crime could lead to curfew
SUMMARY: Councilman Kenneth Stokes is advocating for the reinstatement of a curfew in Jackson to address the issue of juvenile crime, including robberies, murders, and disturbances. The ordinance would prohibit minors from being out late at night and aims to hold parents and grandparents accountable as well. The president of a nonprofit organization mentoring young African American men recently experienced theft and vandalism of vans, disrupting planned activities for kids. The ordinance also includes consequences for violations, such as written warnings and fines. Stokes is pushing for the renewal of the curfew, which used to be in place but must be renewed annually.
