JPS to vote on optimization plan
SUMMARY: The J-P-S board of trustees will vote on a proposed plan to close or consolidate 13 schools in the district due to a decline in students and staffing vacancies. The district has lost over 9,500 students and seen over 400 staffing vacancies since the 2015-16 school year. The board has announced that three elementary schools are no longer on the recommended closure list. If successful, JPS could save over $124 million in renovation costs. The meeting is scheduled to start at 5:30, with updates to follow. 12 News' Cameron Smith is reporting live from Jackson.
