Jackson shelters open doors due to freezing temperatures
SUMMARY: Shelters in Jackson are expecting more guests as temperatures drop. The Opportunity Center Shelter opens when temps are 40 degrees or lower, and can take in 30 people. Guests appreciate having a warm place to stay, with the director saying they are grateful for a hot meal and a safe place to sleep. Additionally, the Billy Brumfield Men's Shelter and Matt's House Shelter for Women and Children fill up quickly, so the Opportunity Center provides additional space. Guests are also provided with warm clothing from the shelter's clothing closet. Rev. Jill Buckley, Stewpot's executive director, says the shelter provides meals, showers, and more for those in need.
