Parham Bridges suspect In court today
SUMMARY: Defense attorneys argue that Cummins acted in self-defense in a murder case involving Jackson teen, Daveon Lindsey. Lindsey, charged with the murder of Melvin McNair Jr., was denied bond by Judge Johnnie McDaniels due to being deemed a community threat. McNair's body was found at Parham Bridges Park last month. Lindsey was arrested following a high-speed chase in McNair's truck. Lindsey claimed he shot McNair in self-defense after seeing him pointing a weapon. He then pulled McNair's body from the truck and fled in it. The case is now headed to a Hinds County grand jury.

City of Canton decides on a curfew
SUMMARY: Due to rising violence, Canton has imposed a curfew starting tonight. Mayor Dr. Williams Truly Jr. announced the curfew after several recent crimes, including two drive-by shootings. Opinions on the curfew vary: some support it for safety, while others feel it won't make a significant impact. The curfew applies to those 17 and younger, from 9 PM to 6 AM on weekdays and 10:30 PM to 6 AM on weekends. Violators face fines. The mayor is also urging businesses to install security cameras. Many believe more activities and guidance for the youth are needed in addition to the curfew.
