2 killed 2 drive-by shootings in Holmes County
SUMMARY: The rise in deadly drive-by shootings in Holmes County highlights a failure to support youth in a racially divided community, according to a local activist. The lack of recreational facilities exacerbates the situation, despite efforts to prompt action from local leadership. Recently, 36-year-old Jamarcus Smith was fatally shot in a drive-by on Clifton Street, and 18-year-old Justin Thompson was killed in a similar incident in the Gwinn community. Activist Warren Holman points to a symbolic red gate blocking a closed baseball field as evidence of neglect. He urges local leaders to foster inclusivity and provide better opportunities for youth.
