In Their Shoes: First female wrestler in Miss. committed to college for wrestling

Among them is Kayleigh Savage, the first female wrestler in Mississippi to be committed to a college for wrestling. Kayleigh is breaking barriers and smashing the glass ceiling in a sport primarily thought of as a guy's sport. She is passionate about wrestling and hopes to inspire other girls to join the sport. Kayleigh's goal is to continue wrestling in college and she plans to become an assistant coach to help other girls in the sport. She emphasizes the importance of conditioning and flexibility in wrestling and wants people to understand that it is not an easy sport.

The small but determined Hancock County Sand Beach Crew works year-round to maintain 10 miles of sandy shoreline, facing challenges such as sand shifting over roads during storms. The crew keeps equipment on standby and works closely with the Emergency Operations Center to stay prepared. Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the crew has grown and maintained the area, facing higher tides than neighboring counties. The crew's dedication and readiness for any storm make them essential in keeping the beaches safe in Hancock County.
