I-10 re-opens to traffic after firefighters get grass fire under control

SUMMARY: Interstate 10 has re-opened after being shut down due to a grass fire. The Mississippi Department of Transportation announced that the highway was re-opened at 1 a.m. following its closure at 2 p.m. on Friday. The fire, located on the side of the interstate and in the median near Mile Marker 8, created heavy smoke, leading officials to halt traffic while firefighters combated the flames. Although open, authorities are alerting motorists to the continued presence of firefighters on the roadside.

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
