How abuse inside the home can impact children
SUMMARY: More than a third of men and women in Mississippi have experienced domestic violence, with many suffering in silence. Dorothy Sanders, who has worked with abuse victims for almost thirty years, says that domestic violence is a cycle that affects how children view relationships. Children growing up in violent homes may act out at school or become bullies themselves. Veronica Harrison, a licensed counselor, adds that abuse can take various forms, including mental and verbal abuse. Although leaving an abusive situation may seem impossible, there is hope for redemption. Victims can seek help through Sanders' office or the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
