Skeletal remains found in Rankin County pond sent to crime lab
SUMMARY: Forensic investigators found mostly bones in a pond in Flowood, providing enough evidence to identify the person and determine how they died. DNA samples will be used to cross-reference with databases like NAMUS to find a match. The state DNA lab will carefully examine the evidence and compare it with samples from missing persons. The body was badly decomposed, making identification challenging. Family members of missing persons may be asked for reference samples to confirm identities. Investigators are seeking information from the public to help narrow down the timeline of events. The investigation may take weeks or months to complete.
