Hattiesburg’s first female police chief to retire
SUMMARY: Hattiesburg Police Chief Peggy Sealy announced her retirement after 36 years of service. She was the first female police chief and will retire at the end of January 2024. Silver Alert issued for 63-year-old Jackson woman
SUMMARY: A Silver Alert has been issued for Linda Gray, a 63-year-old woman from Jackson, Mississippi. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) reported she was last seen around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, in the 1000 block of Raymond Road. Gray was wearing white and blue scrubs with black shoes and has no top teeth. Family members noted she has a medical condition that may impair her judgment. Anyone with information on her whereabouts should contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234 or call 911.

Mississippi teen arrested after threatening Waffle House, shooting at man
SUMMARY: A Mississippi teenager, Jaden Bryant Maples, was arrested after allegedly threatening customers and employees inside a Waffle House on May 22, 2024. According to Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter, Maples called the restaurant on Highway 63 with threats, then rammed a man's vehicle on the highway, causing it to wreck. The victim escaped on foot while Maples shot at him multiple times. Authorities arrested Maples on May 30 after finding several firearms and ammunition in his home. He was charged with attempted murder and making terrorist threats and was denied bond during his court appearance on May 31.

Fourth suspect arrested for 2023 Port Gibson homicide
SUMMARY: A fourth suspect, Jamarrious Hamilton, has been arrested in connection to the January 15, 2023 shooting death of Carl McDaniel in Port Gibson, Mississippi. McDaniel's body was discovered inside a pickup truck on Chinquepin Street. Hamilton was apprehended by the U.S. Marshal's Service and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI). Earlier arrests include Robert Mays and Natasha McDaniel, the victim's wife, both charged with first-degree murder, and Justin Bailey, who was arrested in February 2023.
