Harrison County School District nurses prepare for new school year
SUMMARY: Harrison County School District conducted training for school nurses to prepare for the 2023-2024 academic year. They were given refreshers on updates in medication policies and how to address issues of drug use, specifically vaping, within the school system. MS Bureau of Narcotics Director, Steven Maxwell, provided guidance on recognizing signs of potential overdosing and vaping among students. A 2022 study highlighted that 2.55 million middle and high school students reported using e-cigarettes in the US, emphasising the significance of this aspect in the training.

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
