Gulfport PD participating in ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign
SUMMARY: The Gulfport Police Department is running a campaign over Labor Day to prevent drunken driving, titled ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled over'. The initiative, created by the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, offers advice for those who have been drinking, including making use of a designated driver or ride-share services. DUI-related deaths have recently grown by 14%. The move comes as police presence increases during the holiday period with efforts to keep the roads safe from inebriated drivers.

USM Army and Air Force ROTC programs host Commissioning Ceremonies
SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
