Forrest County deputies trained in ‘Alzheimer’s Approach’
SUMMARY: The Forest County Sheriff's Office in Hattiesburg, Mississippi has received Alzheimer's first response training from the Alzheimer's Association to improve their response to calls involving individuals with the disease. They often receive calls about disoriented individuals, many of whom have Alzheimer's. The training helps deputies recognize the signs of Alzheimer's and effectively deal with scenarios such as abuse, neglect, aggression, and confusion. Using the TALK approach, deputies are trained to take it slow, ask simple questions, limit reality checks, and provide comfort to individuals with Alzheimer's until their family members are located. There are over 57,000 Mississippians living with Alzheimer's.

Smith County flooding rescues

Smith County EMA Deputy Director Hayley Dickey says four people were rescued from the Louin community after 2 houses flooded. One of the homes had 8 inches of water in it. A 73-year-old man was among the rescued. No one was injured.

Judge dismisses sexual harassment lawsuit against Clay County sheriff
