First responders recognized during annual luncheon
SUMMARY: Members of a Hattiesburg Moose Lodge are reaching out to support first responders and children by hosting an annual luncheon. The members hosted an event for law enforcement, firefighters, and EMTs, providing them with stuffed toys to give to children in crisis situations. This initiative has been going on for several years and is greatly appreciated by those who receive the toys. More than 200 “Tommy Moose” toys were distributed during the event, showing appreciation for the work of first responders and providing comfort to children in distress. Charles Herrington reported on this heartwarming event for WDAM 7.

Road construction underway on I-20, bridge in Brandon
SUMMARY: MDOT is in the midst of a massive milling and repaving project on I-20, with the work largely being done overnight to minimize impact on drivers. The project involves grinding away the brittle road surface, filling troubled spots, and placing a top layer of asphalt. Although this is a temporary fix, a more permanent solution will be needed in the future. The current phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer. The project includes a $14 million job on I-20 and repairs to the Brandon Bridge. Drivers have mixed feelings about the road conditions but appreciate the efforts to improve them.
