Down Home Mushrooms LLC cultivating mushrooms on the Coast
SUMMARY: Down Home Mushrooms LLC is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing fungi farms in South Mississippi. Owner Nicholas Gipson was inspired to start his own mushroom farm due to the lack of oyster mushrooms found in the area. Gipson's farm now grows a variety of mushrooms in a controlled environment, as they are made up of 60 percent water. The farm has been noted for its cultivation of golden oyster, pioppino, lions mane, and shitake mushrooms. Gipson's son pointed out that the mushrooms offer potential health benefits including lower cancer risk, improved brain health, and stronger immune systems.

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
