Columbus City Council requires officers to commit 3 years on patrol
SUMMARY: The Columbus City Council is implementing a policy to address low retention rates within the police department by requiring officers to commit to the department for three years after hiring and training. Officers who break this contract will be required to repay education and training fees. The policy aims to prevent tax money from being spent on training officers who leave the department shortly after their training. The new policy will only affect incoming officers without formal training from the police academy.
