Columbus City Council overrides mayor’s annexation veto
SUMMARY: Less than 24 hours after Columbus Mayor Keith Gaskin vetoed the ordinance for annexation, the Columbus City Council held a special meeting and overrode the veto. The ordinance aims to bring two parcels of county land into the city. Critics, including residents and council members, argue that the annexation doesn't make financial sense and will lead to higher property taxes. Those supporting the move believe it will help the people in the area and grow the city's population. The city will now file the ordinance with the Chancery Court, advertise the proposal, and a hearing date will be set by a Chancery Judge.
