Civil complaint filed against Jones County sheriff
SUMMARY: A civil lawsuit has been filed against Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin by Cyntrelle Woodard-Wells on behalf of her minor son, alleging assault. The incident occurred after a football game at South Jones High School in Ellisville on September 16, 2022. The lawsuit claims that Sheriff Berlin entered the locker room accompanied by other officers and physically and verbally abused the minor. Todd Breland, the head coach, intervened, and a verbal altercation ensued between Sheriff Berlin and Coach Breland. The suit requests compensatory damages of at least $75,000 and punitive damages of at least $500,000, as well as attorney and legal fees.
