Capitol police make terroristic threats arrest
SUMMARY: On August 1, 2023, Capitol Police officers in Jackson, Mississippi responded to an incident during an intramural basketball game. A man, subsequently identified as 38-year-old Jeffery Webb Jr., allegedly threatened to shoot several basketball players, before retrieving a backpack from his car. He was stopped by a security guard upon trying to re-enter the building. Police later found a 9mm handgun in his vehicle. Webb was arrested without incident and charged with making a terroristic threat. Police Chief Bo Luckey praised the officers' and security personnel's handling of the situation.

SUMMARY: The family of 16-year-old Kayelyn Gwen Drake, who committed suicide at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, is suing the Harrison County Sheriff's Office and jail medical center for personal injuries and wrongful death. Kayelyn's family believes she was wrongfully accused of armed robbery and would still be alive if not for the actions of the Sheriff's Department. They describe Kayelyn as a good student who enjoyed singing and photography, and claim that she was falsely implicated in the crime due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The family also criticizes the handling of Kayelyn's case by law enforcement, alleging negligence and lack of support.

SUMMARY: The old frontal boundary is stalled near the coast, with storms expected to fire along it later in the day. The heaviest rainfall is predicted along a line from Austin to DeRidder, up to McComb and near Hattiesburg over the next few days. Severe storms are more likely to form north of this boundary, with large hail possible. The area will be unstable before midnight, with conditions conducive for severe storms. Multiple storm systems are expected on Friday, bringing heavy rainfall and the potential for severe weather. By the weekend, the threat of heavy rain and severe storms will diminish as the surface low and upper weakness move east.
