Senate dismisses two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security secretary, ending trial

SUMMARY: The Senate has voted to dismiss the impeachment charges against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas regarding his handling of the U.S.-Mexico border. Both articles of impeachment, one for “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the ,” and another for “breach of trust,” were dismissed as unconstitutional. The attempt to Mayorkas led by House criticism for not meeting the bar for high crimes and misdemeanors required for removal. Despite arguments for a full trial, Democrats considered the move to impeach as political, especially during a presidential election year with border security as a key issue. Democrats hold a majority in the Senate, making conviction unlikely.

From the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Mississippi 's David Mershon and Khal Stephen earned first-team All-SEC honors, while Dakota Jordan made the second team. 's Andrew Fischer was named to the second team. In the Sun Belt, Southern Miss had five players honored: Billy Oldham and Slade Wilks on the first team, and Ozzie Pratt, Dalton McIntyre, and Niko Mazza on the second team.
