Gulfport Goodwill evacuated after training grenade found in donations
SUMMARY: Gulfport police and fire departments responded to a report of an explosive device at Goodwill on Highway 49. The store manager said a store processor found what appeared to be a grenade while going through donated items. The store was evacuated and the perimeter secured. It was later determined that the item was a training device used for Army grenade training and not a real explosive. Gulfport police chief Adam Cooper commended Goodwill for acting quickly in response to the situation.
Thursday afternoon, a training grenade was dropped off at the Goodwill on Highway 49, causing an evacuation of the store.

American Red Cross ‘Sound the Alarm’ campaign installing free smoke alarms in Biloxi
SUMMARY: Bo Rage has partnered with the American Red Cross and the Buxy Fire Department to install free smoke detectors in homes, as part of the Red Cross's National Sound the Alarm campaign. For the past decade, this initiative has installed over 1 million smoke alarms, helping to save lives by ensuring families are prepared in the event of a fire. Volunteers annually canvass neighborhoods in Buxy, creating fire escape plans and installing alarms. Despite substantial progress, disaster program manager Wendy Sample underscores the ongoing need due to new households, poverty, and elderly residents. So far, 2,111 lives have been documented as saved.
On Tuesday, the Beau Rivage partnered with the American Red Cross and the Biloxi Fire Department to install free smoke detectors in Biloxi homes.

Firemen fight blaze at Sugar Mill Apartments in Gulfport, inspiring young trainees
SUMMARY: Golfport firefighters rescued three people from a burning apartment building at Sugar Mill Apartments. They extinguished the blaze quickly and inspired trainees from the Golfport Fire Department Training Academy. Twenty-one firefighters were involved in battling the blaze, which provided invaluable lessons to the trainees.
The trainees didn't get to help battle the blaze, but Training Chief Eric Valles said they'll benefit from witnessing what unfolded.
