Mississippi will soon be bombarded with cicadas
SUMMARY: Trillions of cicadas are set to emerge in a phenomenon known as “cicada-geddon,” with two broods, XIX and XIII, appearing after 13 and 17 years respectively. Areas across the U.S. will see a significant increase in cicada numbers, especially in the East and Midwest. Experts predict up to a million cicadas per acre, totaling potentially quadrillions. While the cicadas may be overwhelming in numbers, they are harmless to humans and pets. States along and east of the Mississippi River are more likely to experience the emergence, while those in the West will likely be spared. The cicadas are set to appear in mid-May for about a month.
