Today's Weather – Avaionia Smith – February 15th, 2024
SUMMARY: Spring severe weather awareness week is on day five and the focus is on lightning safety. Thunderstorms with lightning should be taken seriously, and it's important to stay indoors and away from electronic devices during these storms. Lightning is electricity in the atmosphere caused by positive and negative charges breaking through the air. The greatest threat of being struck by lightning is when the storm is directly overhead. However, for today, there is no lightning to worry about, with partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures. The weekend will bring colder temperatures and scattered showers as a cold front moves through, so be prepared for a significant drop in temperature.

Jackson City Councilman concerned about new parking meters
SUMMARY: Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes raised concerns about the new parking kiosks downtown, noting that many citizens are unaware of how to use them and are receiving fines as a result. He urged the Jackson Department of Planning and Development to implement a 90-day warning period for users struggling with the new system. Stokes criticized the city for not educating the public earlier. Additionally, he advocated for a formal contract for Police Chief Joseph Wade to empower him to enhance city safety, emphasizing collaboration with other law enforcement agencies. These issues will be addressed at the upcoming city council meeting on Tuesday.
