Petal leaders acquiring land for Matthew’s Branch walkway
SUMMARY: The Senate will vote on a border bill by Wednesday. Petal city leaders are moving forward with acquiring land for the Matthew Branch Sidewalk Project. The project began in 2022 and is expected to help boost recreation and entertainment within the city. The project is also expected to provide easier access from the Petal YMCA to downtown Hattiesburg, as well as a new pedestrian bridge. Petal Mayor Tony Ducker says the city's efforts aim to be transparent and provide residents with fun activities. The Splash Pad at the Sportplex is expected to cover an estimated 2,325 square feet, and there are also plans to add soccer fields.
The project is now expected to kick off in just a few months.
