Columbus settles lawsuit with man claiming he was unlawfully arrested
SUMMARY: The city of Columbus settled a lawsuit with a man who claimed he was unlawfully arrested after being charged with manslaughter in connection to the death of Odis Latham. The grand jury did not indict the man, Michael Guyse, and during the investigation, he claimed that officers violated his constitutional rights. Guyse also claimed self-defense under Mississippi's castle doctrine law, saying he feared for his life when Latham broke into vehicles in a parking lot and got into his vehicle. The amount of the settlement was confidential.
