MDOC launches simulation preparing inmates for post-prison life

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) has launched a Reentry Academy to help prepare inmates for release on parole. The program allows eligible offenders to attend the academy to become eligible for presumptive parole. Requirements for enrollment in the program include being within 12 months of release, not receiving a major violation report in the past six months, and agreeing to stay at their current facility until completing the curriculum. The academy focuses on obtaining education and certification, social skills, and life skills necessary for successful reintegration into society. Inmates must pass a final exam simulating their release process to graduate from the program.
