Mississippi Aquarium to release final rescued Kemp’s ridley sea turtle on Friday
SUMMARY: Mississippi Aquarium is preparing to release the last Kemp’s ridley sea turtle from a group that was rescued almost a year ago. The turtles, which were cold-stunned and stranded, were flown to Mississippi in December 2022 for rehabilitation. Now, after months of care from the animal care, facilities, and veterinary teams, the turtles are ready to be released back into the wild. This final release will mark a total of 104 Kemp’s ridley sea turtles that Mississippi Aquarium has released since opening in 2020. The public is invited to witness the release on September 15.

Mississippi Mud Monsters mount 11-run victory in Trustmark Park debut

Rankin County man faces up to 45 years in prison for sexually assaulting minor
SUMMARY: James Matthew Gardner, 26, faces up to 45 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor who lived with him in Rankin County, Mississippi. Convicted by a jury following a two-day trial, Gardner was found guilty of sexual battery and gratification of lust. The abuse was reported in September 2023, with evidence collected from the victim’s home, electronics, and Gardner’s property. Testimonies included the victim, sibling, investigators, medical examiners, and forensic scientists. Mississippi State to build new football practice facility with historic donation
SUMMARY: Mississippi State University announced a historic donation from Howard Industries to fund a new indoor practice facility for its football team. The 110,000-square-foot facility, named after Billy W. Howard Sr., will be built adjacent to the Leo Seal Jr. Football Complex.
