Red Cross Southeast chapter names new executive director
SUMMARY: John McCarty has been appointed as the new executive director of the American Red Cross Southeast Mississippi Chapter, succeeding John McFarland who passed away from cancer. McCarty, who has a background in non-profit work, will start his new role on August 21. He has previously held roles at Mississippi Faith Based Coalition and HOPE Enterprise Corporation, and has served on several boards including the Gulf Coast Credit Union and United Way of South Mississippi. McCarty is a graduate of Leadership Gulf Coast, Leadership Mississippi, Mississippi Black Leadership Institute, and Gulf Coast Business Council Masters Leadership Program.

SUMMARY: Ten Army and three Air Force cadets from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) ROTC were commissioned as Second Lieutenants. The Army ceremony at Camp Shelby featured Major General Janson D. Boyles, while the Air Force ceremony on campus featured Brigadier General Mary-Kathryn Haddad. LTC Juan J. Ortiz praised the Army cadets for their leadership, and Lt. Col. Sheena Puleali'i commended the Air Force cadets for their commitment. Distinguished Military Graduate 2LT Jeremiah J. Parker expressed pride in his training and future goals. Commissioned cadets include 2LT Miruna Avram, 2LT Braxton Bailey, 2LT Jada Fairley, among others.
