Starkville host first “Pet Mayor” election
SUMMARY: Starkville, Mississippi is holding its first-ever pet mayor election, which is being described as rigged. The purpose of the election is to raise money for the Main Street Association and the Octavio County Humane Society. Voters will pay to vote, and the pet with the most money will win. Only pets of residents of Starkville or Mississippi State University students are eligible to be nominated, and it costs $50 to nominate a pet. The pet mayor will have various responsibilities, including being the Grand Marshal at events such as the Cardinal cotton District Arts Festival and the Christmas parade. Nominations are open until August 25th and voting ends on September 15th.
