Mississippi receives more than 11,000 absentee ballots ahead of primary

SUMMARY: As of July 24, over 11,000 absentee ballots have been received ahead of Mississippi's 2023 Primary Election. A total of 17,218 absentee ballots have been requested, 16,660 have been sent, and 11,313 have been received. County Circuit Clerks are consistently processing requests for absentee ballots, leading to a difference between the number requested and the number sent. Absentee ballots will be accepted or rejected by the resolution board, with the actual number of accepted or rejected ballots determined after the election. can track their absentee ballots using the My Election Day ballot tracker. Mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received within five business days to count. County election can begin processing absentee ballots at 7 am on Election Day, with tabulation taking place at 7 pm. Starkville Police charge three people in an aggravated assault case

SUMMARY: On May 17th at 12:23 a.m., Starkville responded to gunshots at the intersection of South Montgomery Street and Yellow Jacket . Three individuals were charged in the incident: Marcuevas Guido with aggravated assault, Cedric Lucious with disorderly conduct and possession of a stolen firearm, and Cornelius Hendrix with accessory after the fact. A vehicle was damaged, but no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected.
