Bogue Chitto man pleads guilty to shooting at police officer

SUMMARY: Shane Alexander Bell Jr., a Bogue Chitto man, has pled guilty to shooting at a police officer in Mississippi. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in 2022 for using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. The incident occurred on March 17, 2020, when Bell fired a handgun at the officer, damaging the officer's home. Thankfully, the officer was unharmed. Bell now faces a penalty of at least ten years in prison, and the sentencing will be determined by a federal district judge. The Choctaw Police Department of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and ATF investigated the case.

Former Mississippi school financial secretary pleads guilty to embezzlement

SUMMARY: Dana Walker, the former financial secretary at H.W. Byers High School in Jackson, Miss., pled guilty to embezzling $39,471.70 in school activity funds between August 2020 and February 2022. She was initially arrested in February 2022 by Marshall County School District Police, and the case was later investigated by the State Auditor's Office. Walker collected funds from students and staff for items like senior dues, athletic uniforms, and fundraisers, but failed to properly document and deposit these funds.
